Gold Medal Swim School was founded by 2x Olympian Mike Troy, Founder And Olympic Coach Mike Walker, Owner. The goal of the business was to build swimming the right way from the start! The motto over the years was always, “If we do what is best for the kids, the business will always work out.”
Weaving our swimming and coaching experience into the swim school business, we developed five Core Values to build the optimal swimmer – Safety, Relaxation, Air Regulation, Body Position, and Propulsion.
Today, we employ over 60 teachers and we see over 1,800 students walk through our doors each week to take part in the fun.
We strive to remain a family of people who love kids, love swimming, and build a fun and contagious environment for students to learn to swim the right way from the start.
At Gold Medal Swim School, we take great pride in our facility. We believe a safe and inviting environment optimizes instruction and allows our students to thrive.
To provide the highest water quality, we utilize the DELL Ozone water sanitation system, the same used to treat bottled water. The entire pool water is completely filtered every 90 minutes and replaced every six days to provide our swimmers with the safest and cleanest water in the Valley.
Our safety precautions and methods go far and above the Maricopa County regulations. They include an outside air handler, separate vacuum system for little one’s when they have an accident, daily family-wide sanitation between shifts as well as a professional cleaning service each evening after closing.
Gold Medal Swim School is built on a unique foundation of Core Values – Safety, Air Regulation, Relaxation, Body Position, and Propulsion. This foundation is introduced in Baby Swim and extends through Learn To Swim, Swim Team, and Adult Swim lessons.
Safety
Our goal is to equip students with as many life-saving skills as possible. Our classes begin with the Gold Medal “Sit, Listen, and Wait” Safety talk. Starfish students learn the Turnaround Survival Sequence and Seahorse students learn the Roll-to-Back survival skill.
Air Regulation
Air Regulation is the consistent exchange of air primarily through the mouth, by exhaling underwater (blowing bubbles) and inhaling above the water. There should be no double breath while the head is above the water.
Relaxation
Relaxation is developed by water exploration, proper air regulation, and water confidence. The relaxed swimmer can think more quickly in a survival situation, add skills more quickly, and swim longer, farther, and faster.
Body Position
Body Position is the swimmer’s platform from which all strokes emerge. A tall body line helps reduce drag and puts the swimmer in the best position to not only survive, but be as fast as possible.
Propulsion
Propulsion is speed, built from the legs up, and increases in efficiency as other Core Values are strengthened. After the swimmer has mastered the Core Values, arms are added as the final component.
