Focus on Comfort and Mastering Swimming Basics

Class Description

Adult Beginner focuses on becoming comfortable in the water and developing foundational swimming skills. Classes are designed to develop the whole swimmer through positive reinforcement and commitment to each individual’s personal goals.

Student Goals

Swimmers learn to swim with underwater breathing techniques, practiced glides, and propulsion by kicking. Swimmers in this introductory class will also master side-breathing, a skill critical to Freestyle swimming.

Class Details and Prerequisites

  • Age 13 years or older
  • No swimming experience is required
  • 6:1 student to teacher ratio
  • 60-minute class, 1 x per week

Graduation Skills:

  • Understand that swimming alone is the primary cause of all adult drownings
  • Independent Float on the Belly and the Back
  • Rotational Kicks with Relaxed and Controlled Breathing
  • Comfortable and Relaxed Freestyle for 25 yards with No Stops (Roll-to-Back or Side Breath)
  • Breaststroke Kick with Glide Arms
  • Wiggles with Glide Arms and one Pull to Breathe

 

  • Air Regulation in Underwater Activity with Relaxation
  • Independent Kicks on the Belly and the Back
  • Relaxed Kicks Underwater
  • Comfortable and Relaxed Backstroke for 25 yards with No Stops
  • Comfortable and Relaxed Breaststroke for 25 yards with one Pull to Breathe and one Kick to Glide with No Stops
  • Comfortable and Relaxed Butterfly for 25 yards with one Wiggle and one Pull with No Stops
